The National Gay Basketball Association (NGBA) is an all-inclusive organization dedicated to providing the LGBTQ+ community and its allies with a well-organized, supportive and welcoming sporting environment. We are committed to uniting athletes, communities, and cultures on and off the court while promoting national and international competition, providing health education and access to play the game. The NGBA offers underserved LGBTQ+ communities the resources needed to start open play, start league play, and access to tournaments hosted by the NGBA.
Operations Contractor
6 – 20 hours per week
October 2024 – January 2024
The Operations Contractor will work closely with the Operations Team to plan and execute NGBA tournaments.
Responsibilities
- Planning and Coordination: Organize all aspects of the tournament, including scheduling games and coordinating with captains, officials, and the venue
- Logistics Management: Handle logistics such as accommodations procurement and social events
- Game Day Operations: Oversee the smooth running of tournament events
- Communication: Serve as the primary point of contact for captains, head referee, volunteer club, and venue staff
- Budget Management: Monitor expenses related to tournament operations and staying within allocated budgets
- Marketing and Promotion: Assist in promoting the tournament through various channels to attract participants and spectators
- Documentation: Maintain records and documentation related to tournament operations, including contracts, waivers, and insurance
- Post-Tournament Evaluation: Conduct evaluations and debriefings with the Operations Team to assess the success of the tournament and identify areas for improvement
Job Requirements & Qualifications
- 6-20 hours per week, with potential for additional hours depending on tournament requirements
- 3 month contract, August – November 2024 with opportunity for extensions based on need and performance
- Detail-oriented, organized, and ability to multitask to complete a wide variety of tasks and projects
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Excellent time management skills and ability to prioritize work and meet deadlines
- Ability to function with and without close supervision
- Passion for basketball and event management
Compensation & Benefits
$30-35 per hour (depending on strengths and experience). This is a contract position that does not provide employee benefits.

Head Referee Contractor
Job Description
The Head Referee will be responsible for the management of all matters directly relating to referees and scorekeepers including:
- Evaluating the certification level of available referees and partnering with the local referee scheduler for each tournament
- Communicating and reviewing the tournament schedule and game rules with the referees and scorekeepers
- Managing referees and scorekeepers during each tournament and providing assistance as needed
- Fostering a professional environment with referees and players
- Maintaining daily incident log during tournaments and completing incident reports post tournament
Desired Qualifications
- Current NCAA certified official
- Minimum 3 years experience as a referee
- Effective communication skills
- Ability to manage volunteers
- Capability of working with a wide range of individuals
- Records maintenance skills
- Ability to operate calmly and effectively under stressful conditions
- Organizing and coordinating skills
