The NGBA is dedicated to maintaining the legacy of LGBTQ+ and ally players, city leaders, and supporters who have paved the way for individuals to be who they are and play the game they love. The purpose of the National Gay Basketball Association Hall of Fame is to provide a historical perspective and honor the history of the LGBTQ+ basketball community around the world.
Any member of the NGBA, LGBTQ+ associated basketball organizations (domestic and international), living or deceased, including players, managers, coaches, referees, scorekeepers, sponsors, and fans, who have been active for at least seven years, are eligible for nomination to the Hall of Fame. Nominees should have made significant contributions to their leagues and/or to the NGBA.
Notable exceptions are death and unforeseen relocation that prohibited a member from participating for a minimum of seven years.
Applications may be submitted by any person familiar with the candidate.
Nominated individuals who are not inducted will be automatically resubmitted for two additional years. After this three-year period, the nominator will be notified and asked to submit an updated application for the nominee.
Each eligible voter receives one vote only. (If someone is a Hall of Fame member and also holds an NGBA board position, they have two votes.) The vote for induction must be unanimous.
