HomeNGBA Code of Conduct

The National Gay Basketball Association’s (“NGBA”) mission is to provide the LGBTQ+ community and its allies
with a well-organized, supportive and inclusive sporting environment. While competition is an important part of
the NGBA experience, the NGBA’s first priority is the safety and wellbeing of our athletes and our community.
This Code of Conduct outlines the basic expectations of behavior as a participant in NGBA activities, on and off
the court, to ensure the safety and enjoyment of all participants. The standards of conduct listed as well as the
general spirit that is implied shall be followed and respected by all participants.

  1. I will remember that playing basketball and involvement with the NGBA is an opportunity to connect
with the community and have fun.
  2. I accept responsibility for my behavior on and off the court and I understand that my behavior affects my
teammates, the NGBA, and our community. I will refrain from any activity or conduct that may be
detrimental or reflect adversely upon my teammates, the NGBA, and our community.
  3. I will show respect for all athletes, referees, guests and NGBA staff and volunteers at all times. I will treat
everyone with respect regardless of age, race, color, national origin, gender identity and/or expression,
sex, sexual orientation, religion, or abilities and I will expect to be treated accordingly.
  4. I will not engage in unsportsmanlike conduct including, but not limited to, the following:
    1. Committing flagrant fouls or endangering the safety and wellbeing of other participants
    2. Verbal or physical threats or physical violence toward athletes, referees, guests, or NGBA staff
      and volunteers at any time
    3. Unwanted sexual advances or assaults against athletes, referees, guests, or NGBA staff and
      volunteers at any time
    4. Discriminatory, harassing, disrespectful, derogatory or unruly behavior, including taunting or
      excessive swearing or vulgarities
  5. I will not tolerate inappropriate behavior, regardless of the situation, and will report such incidents to the
NGBA staff and I will not encourage the unsportsmanlike conduct of other athletes or spectators.
  6. I will adhere to the NGBA Games Rules at all times.
  7. I will show respect for the conditions and quality of all venues used for tournaments and NGBA events.
Such respect includes taking reasonable care of the facilities, and not engaging in actions such as
    destruction of property.

I understand that violations may result in the forfeiture of my registration fee and my removal from the
remainder of the tournament, potential suspension of my membership, or banishment from playing in future
tournaments, at the discretion of NGBA leaders, based on the severity of the situation.
