I picked up basketball super late in life and played pick up here and there, but had never played any organized ball. So, I made it a priority to at least try organized ball. Then, once I got a bit more comfortable with playing on a team I decided to give NGBA a try.
I would say Dwight Dunn. Dwight was on my very first NGBA team and I remember being so nervous that tournament. Dwight made me feel super comfortable and gave me really great advice on the court
Being apart of the LGBTQ+ basketball community has completely transformed my life. I have made countless friends across the years and have created so many precious memories. I can’t think of a community that has been more rewarding to me.
My first time playing organized basketball was in January 2016 when I was 18 years old. I joined the LGBTQ+ league in Chicago and no idea what to expect. The thing I remembered most about that season was the way everyone treated me. Everyone was so nice and looked after me like a little brother.
Have fun with it! You’re going to meet some of the most amazing folks on the court and create lifelong friends!
