I’ve created a brotherhood of people I can reach out to whenever. We travel together. We discuss life.

What first got you interested in playing basketball, and how did you find your way into the LGBTQ+ basketball community?

I played ball on every level but wanted to see if I could meet others from the community who enjoyed the game as well. A friend told me about the NGBA.

Can you remember your very first game with an LGBTQ+ team? How did it go, and what do you remember most about it?

I played in Philly in 2017. I knew nobody there except one teammate who I texted with two weeks prior(Danny). I didn’t know the level of play but I was happy with my team who told me to lead and do what I do.

Who has been your biggest inspiration or mentor in the LGBTQ+ basketball community, and why?

Danny & Mark have been great to me. They have put me in position to be myself and enjoy the game I love. Danny has surrounded me with people whom have become family to me. I’m forever grateful to Mark for getting me to my first tournament and answering my email at midnight. I reached out to him randomly while watching basketball and he responded immediately.

Have you had any funny or unexpected moments on the court that you’d love to share with us?

Haha. My first tournament people called me “girl.” I would get so annoyed until I just started ignoring it haha! I was unaware of this being a thing lol.

Which LGBTQ+ basketball player, past or present, would you most like to play one-on-one with, and why?

Mikey. He’s been a brother to me since joining the league. I love to compete against him. I’ve even won a tournament with him.

If you could create an all-star team of LGBTQ+ players from any era, who would be on your dream team?

Danny, Mikey, Chris, Demarco, Will.

How has being part of the LGBTQ+ basketball community impacted your life off the court?

I’ve created a brotherhood of people I can reach out to whenever. We travel together. We discuss life.

What's one piece of advice you would give to young LGBTQ+ athletes just starting out in their basketball journey?

Have fun simply. Really lean on your teammates. Also reach out to the people running the tournaments. You don’t need to be like anyone else, act like anyone else or do what anyone else is doing. Be you.
