The National Gay Basketball Association (NGBA) announces the passing of Ronald “Flavaron” Reid, inducted into the NGBA Hall of Fame in 2017 and a longtime cornerstone of the Atlanta Trade/Shade basketball team. He passed away on March 3, 2025, following a courageous battle with cancer, which returned after years of remission.
Ron began his NGBA journey at the 2002 San Diego tournament and competed in at least one event annually for 19 consecutive years. Over 19 seasons with the Atlanta Trade/Shade team, his efforts helped solidify Atlanta as a consistent contender in the NGBA circuit.

Ron remained loyal to the Atlanta Trade/Shade team throughout his career, winning titles in Chicago (twice), Austin, and
Las Vegas, alongside multiple second-place finishes. In 2017, Ron was diagnosed with cancer and had his initial surgery.
In 2018, while in remission, Ron joined the NGBA cruise basketball event “Neptunes Gods of the Sea” and played his last
tournament in October 2021 at the 30th anniversary Coady Roundball Classic in Chicago. Ron advocated for the American
Cancer Society, blending his personal journey with public outreach.
